How to Prepare a Logo for a Hat Patch

Better source artwork produces a cleaner patch. You do not need to be a designer, but sending the strongest file you have helps preserve small details and makes production faster.

Keep the Final Patch Size in Mind

A logo that looks good on a computer screen can become difficult to read when reduced to roughly 2–3 inches. Thin strokes, tiny legal text and very small gaps may need to be simplified.

Transparent Backgrounds Help

For raster artwork, a clean transparent PNG is preferable to a logo sitting on a white rectangle. This makes it easier to evaluate the real artwork edge and intended patch contour.

Decide Whether the Patch Is a Standard Shape or Custom Contour

Rectangle, rounded rectangle, circle and badge shapes are straightforward. If you want the patch to follow the artwork silhouette, the cut shape should be visually clear.

UV Printing vs. Engraving Changes Artwork Needs

Full-color logos, gradients and detailed illustrations usually favor UV printing. Bold, simple artwork often translates especially well to laser engraved leatherette.
