Hat Patch Heat Press Settings
These are the recommended starting points F5 uses for heat-activated leatherette patches. Every press, hat construction and pressure setup can behave differently, so testing is still important.
SINGLE-PLATEN HAT PRESS
300°F • 40 Seconds
- Preheat hat 20–30 seconds
- 300°F
- 40-second press
- Firm, even pressure
DUAL-PLATEN HAT PRESS
280°F Top / 320°F Bottom
- Preheat hat 20–30 seconds
- Top: 280°F
- Bottom: 320°F
- 40-second press
- Firm, even pressure
Why Preheating Matters
Preheating helps remove moisture and warms the hat surface before the adhesive cycle. It also makes it easier to judge whether the front panel is sitting evenly on the platen.
Pressure Matters as Much as Temperature
A patch can reach the correct temperature and still fail if part of the patch is not making consistent contact with the hat. Curved crowns, seams and uneven platen pressure can create weak spots.
Do Not Treat These Settings as Universal
Hat materials, press geometry, actual platen temperature and pressure vary. Use the settings above as a starting point and test when changing hat style, patch material or press setup.
